Furry Friend Fridays

Pippan

This week’s featured Woods Guest is Pippin, a very pretty solid black short haired lady with beautiful golden eyes, extremely soft fur and a very regal face. She’s a quiet cat who is somewhat afraid of other cats in the cattery, so you can usually find her in a cubby or on a window sill, but she is very approachable and friendly. As soon as you walk up to her she will start purring and charm you into petting her. Pippen loves to touch noses with you and her gentle head-butts will melt your heart. And if you can bring yourself to stop petting her, Pippen will reach out with one of her little black paws and gently pull your hand back in.

Pippen is spayed, micro chipped, and current on vaccinations. She is 4 years old and has been a guest of our shelter since April of 2009. Pippen is helping us continue this month’s $5 Feline Fridays promotion and is available for a reduced adoption fee of only $5 each Friday in April. Stop by Woods Humane Society today and spend some time getting know Pippin and the other $5 Friday Felines—all of these amazing cats are desperately seeking a new loving home to call their own.

Duma

This week’s featured pet pal is Duma, a large, handsome buff colored tabby with stunning amber eyes. He’s a quiet 2-year-old guy who tends to keep to himself, so to get to know him you have to seek him out in the cattery. But he is worth the effort—loving and affectionate, Duma is a gentle sweetheart. It doesn’t take him long to respond to petting—and you’ll know you are winning him over when he erupts into his deep, rumbling purr. And He’ll happily climb into your lap for a little snooze if you’d like. Because he is shy, Duma will need some patience and time to acclimate to a new home. But once this sweet fellow finds his “forever” home and learns to trust you, he’s going to make a very loyal, loving companion. Duma is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and as a WHS resident of over 300 days is available for a reduced adoption fee of only $5 every Friday in April. Stop by Woods Humane Society today and get to know our 300+ Club (23 cats) who are all available for $5 every Friday in April.

Tangerine

This week’s Featured Pet Pal is Tangerine, a 4-year-old orange and white medium haired cat who has called Woods Humane Society her home since June. Tangerine is spayed, current on vaccinations, micro chipped and litter box trained. She has gorgeous fur, big round eyes, and a punk nose that sports freckles. She can be a bit shy and quiet and keeps to herself a bit, but she responds quickly and eagerly to your attention. Sit down with her and she’ll welcome your lap to curl up in, and will settle down for as long as you let her, purring away.

Though she is shy, Tangerine is calm and serene and doesn’t seem to get fazed by much in the cattery—even other cats. And with her gentle nature, she would be a good choice for a family with children. Tangerine is not a demanding cat—all this littler girl will need from someone is room and board, lots of love and a warm lap to call her own. Tangerine is helping us launch April’s feline promotion where all of the cats who have been guests of Woods over 300 days are available for a reduced adoption fee of only $5 on any Friday in April.

MeowMeow

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Meow Meow, a 9-year-old tortoishell cat who has called Woods Humane Society home since January. Meow Meow is spayed, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and litter box trained. She was brought to Woods by her previous owner who has raised her since birth. Unfortunately, Meow Meow’s previous owner made the decision to bring her to WHS due to her in-compatibility issues with their other 3 cats. She is described as “perfect” and “loves people”. Although a little timid at first, Meow Meow can usually be found lounging in our cattery, snuggled up to one of her feline catterymates. Oddly, Meow Meow tolerates large dogs better than other cats. She would do best in a quiet home and although she does get along well with others, would prefer to be the only cat in the house. Meow Meow would also prefer to be an indoor only cat. Her previous owner has left contact information at the shelter should anyone have any questions about Meow Meow. As a “senior” (7+) guest of Woods, Meow Meow is available for a reduced adoption fee of only $65. A staff favorite—the shelter’s Operations Director has fallen absolutely in love with Meow Meow and has stated how if WHS did not already have an office cat on staff, Meow Meow would definitely have a home in the shelter’s administration wing. Meow Meow is the perfect cat for an older person or for someone who lives alone (and is in need of the unquestionable love that can only be found in the warm, rumbling purr of a Woods Cat). Stop by the shelter today and spend some time getting to know Meow Meow, she is a special treasure and desperate to find a loving new home.

Our Featured Pet of the Week is Hampo, a 5.5 year old, black & tan Chihuahua mix who has called Woods Humane Society home since October. Hampo is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and keeps his kennel very clean, and gets along well with other dogs. Hampo is low key, very affectionate and would do best with older/considerate children. Cristy, our Animal Care Supervisor describes Hampo as a “Man-Dog”…in other words, he has a big heart and a big personality wrapped up into a small package. Woods Humane Society currently has a large population of small breed dogs so if you are looking for a fun, cute, and loveble little dog (like Hampo)—we have plenty to chose from. Luke

Luke is a small dog (about 12 pounds) looking for his forever home. He loves to be with people and loves to snuggle. Luke is a red colored miniature pinscher that would make a great addition to almost any home. He is the dog that has called Woods home the longest. When people visit Luke at Woods, he doesn’t always make the best first impression barking and jumping, but once out of the kennel, he is a completely different dog. Give this sweet boy a chance.

Tweetie

This week’s featured pet is Tweetie, a 4-year-old a medium haired, black and white, spayed female cat who has called WHS her home since August. Tweetie is current on vaccinations and is also litter box trained. Tweetie is a very pretty white cat with black markings, bunny soft fur and huge, round golden eyes. This petite little darling is friendly and outgoing and welcomes a friendly lap to curl up in for some love. She’s also very active and curious, so she’ll be off to explore and return to make sure you lap is still there from time to time.

Tweetie has a wonderful personality that would fit into any household. Sweet and non-aggressive toward other cats, she will only need a little time and patience in order to adjust to a new environment. She’d love to be a part of your family –furry or not. Tweetie is gentle, loving, and affectionate—and just look at her: who could resist that adorable little face. She is helping us to continue this week’s Valentines Promotion of all adult felines ready to go to a great new home for only $14 until Saturday. If you have been thinking about bringing a cat into your life, now is the time to do it with our lowest adoption fee of the entire year.

Stormy

This week, we are featuring Stormy-a 1.5 year old Australian Cattle Dog who has been bunking at Woods Humane Society since the middle of January. Originally a transfer from SLO County Animal Services, Stormy has quickly caught the loving eye of our amazing volunteer offsite handlers. Stormy is spayed, current on license, vaccinated, and leash trained. She gets along very well with other dogs and can usually be found romping around a play yard with a group of her kennelmates. Australian Cattle Dogs are happiest in wide open spaces, are very high-energy dogs and extremely intelligent, so they need a job – such as herding, obedience or agility – to keep them happy. While wary of strangers, the breed bonds closely to its family, though the owner must establish themselves as the pack leader. Their smooth, short coat requires only occasional baths and brushing.

Kizzy

Kizzy is a sweet lovable girl looking for a home.  She is 1 1/2 year old Labrador and Border Collie mix. Kizzy is a medium sized dog, about 60 lbs and is black with white markings. She is eager to please and very trainable. Kizzy likes to play and would be great for families, though because she is a little bigger maybe not a family with very small children. Kizzy is sweet and wants to find a home.

Wookie

This week, we are highlighting Wookie, a 6-month-old, medium haired, brown Tabby who has called Woods Humane Society her home since September. Wookie is micro chipped, current on vaccinations, spayed, and completely litter box trained. She is super friendly to everyone (staff, volunteers, and visitors alike) and gets along great with other cats. Extremely affectionate, Wookie will actively seek out your attention and if given the opportunity, she will clamor up your arm and perch gently on your shoulder. A special little girl with a lot of love to give, Wookie is highly tolerant, playful, gentle, and cuddly. She is a great cat for a family with children and is desperately seeking a loving new home while patiently waiting for you to come out and meet her at Woods.

Sugar

This week’s featured pet is Sugar, a 9-year-old shepherd/sharpie mix who has called Woods Humane Society home since early October. Sugar is spayed, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, house and leash trained. She was surrendered by her previous owner when they no longer could provide care for her. Great with kids, Sugar is gentle, sweet, and highly tolerant. She also gets along well with other dogs. Sugar is an older lady who likes to walk—she does very well both on and off leash. Although she doesn’t really play fetch, grab a squeaky toy and sugar will instantly give you those “I want to play” eyes. A calm dog that isn’t going to ask for very much, Sugar is simply looking for a warm home to retire in. Her previous owner states that Sugar’s best qualities are that she is gentle and compassionate and they have left contact information at the shelter should you want or need more information on Sugar. Stop by and spend some time with Sugar, she can usually be found lying quietly behind the shelter’s front desk and assisting with adoptions.

Alex

This week we are featuring Alex, a 3-year-old lab/shepherd mix who has called Woods Humane Society home since October. Alex is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, leash trained, and crate trained. He travels very well in the car and has recently been taking shelter volunteers on long hikes up Madonna Mountain. Alex is mellow and has performed exceptionally well as a Woods K9 Ambassador on numerous outreach activities. Alex is a large dog with a big heart and a lot of energy. He is a perfect match for an active family and would enjoy long walks around the neighborhood, hikes, camping trips, or the water. Due to his size, we do not recommend him for families with children under 7 years. Alex loves to play with his chew toys and does a great job entertaining himself. He is very quick to show affection and if you give him a little love, he will return it willingly by leaning against your leg as he slides down onto his back, feet up in the air, begging for a belly rub. Alex is described by shelter volunteers as being a “fun” dog to work with. He responds great to commands and is very treat/praise motivated. If you are looking for a larger dog that will turn heads as you walk around town, consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know Alex.

Jupiter

Let me introduce you to this week’s featured Pet Pal—Jupiter, a 2-year-old buff colored male tabby who has called Woods Humane Society his home since May. Jupiter is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and litter box trained. He is a handsome short haired, baby faced, boy with striking golden eyes. This guy is very social and affectionate—always up for some love and petting. And he is very talkative—if you don’t give him as much love as he thinks he needs, or stop petting him, he’ll be quick to let you know. Jupiter will meow (and meow and meow) and will even reach out and gently grab your hand to bring it back for more pets. Then he’ll roll over fetchingly on his back to ensure he gets all the love he can!

Calm and very good natured, Jupiter gets along with everyone—people and cats alike and would be a great choice for any household. He can give little love bites, but like everything else about him, they are sweet and gentle. If you are looking for a handsome, mellow, affectionate and loving cat to call your own this holiday season, get to know Jupiter and look no further!

Dusky is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and litter box trained. What a handsome boy! Dusky is a very regal fellow with stunning eyes and a majestic, lion-like face. While he used to be a bit shy and hide out in the cattery, he has relaxed into a mellow, secure boy. Dusky is very affectionate and will welcome your petting and love and will quickly reward you with his deep rumbling purrs. This wonderful boy is going to make a great cuddly lap cat—he is loving and easy going—a gentle giant with a heart to match. Maxi

This week’s Pet Pal is Maxi, a 3-year-old cream & tan Pomeranian who was brought to Woods by his previous owner due to high energy levels. Maxi is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, crate trained, and leash trained. Maxi is a companion breed and as such, he is looking for a new owner who will have the ability to spend a lot of time with him. Maxi is very social, filled with energy, and absolutely loves people. He gets along very well with children but we are recommending that-due to his high energy level-the most appropriate home will have children that are a little older. Maxi’s favorite game is fetch and he loves to roll over to solicit tummy rubs. He also does a great job of entertaining himself (he will throw his tows in the air and catch them). Maxi is definitely an indoor/outdoor dog and would prefer to be with people all the time. Maxi’s previous owner has left contact information with us at Woods should you wish to contact them with any additional questions.

Val

This week’s Featured Pet is Val, a 10 month old Chihuahua who has called Woods Humane Society her home since September. Val is spayed, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and currently working on her crate training. Val was brought to Woods by her previous owner who was moving and also had a newborn baby. Val is great with kids and was raised with a 2 & 8 year old. A great indoor/outdoor dog—Val gets along great with other dogs and people. She walks well on a leash and does great off-leash at the dog park. Her previous owner states that Val’s best qualities are her tolerance of kids, gentle nature, and playful side. Val has also accompanied our shelter’s volunteers as a Woods K9 Outreach Ambassador, played all day at our booth at the Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival, and is currently being trained to participate in our Pet Visitation program to local retirement facilities. If you are looking for a small dog with a big loving heart, stop by Woods Humane Society today and get to know Val.

Sorbet

This week’s featured pet pal is Sorbet, a 2-year-old Orange and White Tabby who has called Woods Humane Society home since May. Sorbet is altered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, litter box trained, and comes equipped with an extra set of toes! Polydactyl cats originate from Florida and more specifically Earnest Hemmingway himself. Sorbet is an active cat that would be happy living both indoor and outdoors. He doesn’t mind the company of other cats, is highly tolerant, active, independent, playful, outgoing, and is notorious for stealing the television remote. If you are looking for a younger cat with a great personality, stop by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know the wonderful cup of Sorbet.

Clifford

This week’s featured pet is Clifford, an 8-year-old lab/chow(?) mix who has called Woods Humane Society his home since June. Clifford is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and crate trained. He is a wonderful dog who made his way into our adoption program when his previous owner lost there home and had to move. Extremely tolerant—Clifford loves children and is a graduate of Woods Humane Society’s Critter Camp Program. He gets along very well with other dogs and loves to play. His previous owners describe Clifford as gentle, highly tolerant, easy going, and quiet. He also doesn’t mind the company of cats. His favorite activities are going for walks, playing fetch, and anything to do with water. For the most part, Clifford has lived his life as an outside dog but will do well as an indoor/outdoor dog too. His best qualities are that he is very friendly to anyone, very quiet, and gentle with any animal he is in contact with. Clifford has joined the shelter’s outreach volunteers as they participate in numerous community events—he has a very special fondness for the Nipomo High School Football Team. Clifford’s previous owners have left their contact information with us at Woods should you wish to learn more about this great, older dog. Due to his age, Clifford is available for a reduced adoption fee of $65 so stop by Woods Humane Society today and spend some time with our often overlooked Clifford.

However, his absolute favorite activity is to loaf around in the sun. Quiet and gentle—Rambo will make a wonderful addition to just about any family and due to his size, would be a great fit for someone in a condo or with a small yard. Angelina

Meet Angelina—our featured pet of the week! Angelina is a 10-year-old Terrier mix (seriously a wonder dog) who was transferred into Woods Humane Society back in May. Angelina is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped, and house trained. She walks great on a leash and is a current participant in WHS’ Critter Camp Program. Angelina is looking for a quiet home to retire in. She is very easy to work with and her potential adopter’s handling experience can be very low. Being an older dog, Angelina is currently available for a reduced adoption fee of $65. A staff member states—Angelina is a sensitive, scruffy, monster who loves to horse around with her best friend Brad. She is very smart and enjoys learning new things with her Critter Camper. Tuffy

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Tuffy, a 5-year-old tan & white Chihuahua mix who has called Woods Humane Society home since June. Tuffy is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and house trained. He walks great on a leash and LOVES to jump into your arms (and stay there as long as possible). Very friendly and easy to handle, Tuffy has participated in our shelter’s outreach program as a Woods K9 Ambassador. Tuffy was brought to WHS when his previous owner fell ill and could no longer provide care for him--his previous owner states that Tuffy’s favorite activity is to “loaf in the sun”. Tuffy is a small dog with a big personality and would do very well in a smaller home or apartment. He is quiet, gentle, and sweet but we recommend that he not go to a home with very young children (he hasn’t been around young kids before). If you or anyone you know is looking for a great little companion that you can take just about everywhere—stop by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know little Tuffy. Warning: You just might fall in love.

Danner

Our featured Pet of the Week is Danner, a 5-year-old Border Collie who has called Woods Humane Society home since February. Danner is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, crate and house trained. Danner has been working as the shelter’s humane education ambassador and visits local elementary schools to help our Program Director teach local youth about dog safety. He is also participating in the shelter’s summer Critter Camp Program and is performing wonderfully with our campers. He loves attention and is very playful. Danner would do well in a family with children and gets along well with other dogs. He is a border collie though which means that he needs an active home that is willing to treat Danner as a member of the family. He would do very well as a travel companion, loves long walks and hikes, and already has his basic obedience. Stop by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know Danner, he just might be that furry companion that you have been waiting for.

Reggie

Reggie is an extremely handsome medium haired orange tabby with a white chin and somewhat gruff looking face that belies his incredibly sweet nature. Just walk toward him and he begins to purr—pet his extremely soft fu and he’ll melt before your very eyes! Reggie is exceptionally affectionate and loving. He’ll roll over and his back begging you for more love, and will gently grab your hand with his big soft paws and give you a soft little love bite to say thank you.

Reggie is playful, but gentle—he’d be a great choice for any household and might welcome a “brother or sister” to play with if you have children. And he’s good with other cats—can usually be found curled up with another cattery mate. Reggie is a special cat—this handsome boy is easy to get to know and easier to fall in love with—and he’s just waiting to fall in love with you, too.

Reggie is 2 years old, neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and is helping us to continue our celebration of National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month. All felines at Woods Humane Society are available for a reduced adoption fee of $55 for the entire month of June. We are trying to break the 1 month feline adoption record and our goal is to place 62 of our furry friends into loving new homes by the end of the month.

Heath

Our Pet of the Week this week is Heath, a 5-year-old neutered male cat who has called Woods Humane Society his home since December. Heath is a very handsome short haired gray boy with a white chest, white feet and a tiny white spot on his bottom lip. This guy is a LOVE BUG who just wants to be in your lap, or being held—preferably as close to you as possible. Give him a chance and he’ll happily curl up around your neck and shoulders and lick you to pieces. Heath is calm and gentle—definitely a lover, not a fighter. And he loves everyone—will happily go from lap to lap, soaking up whatever love and affection he can find. Heath is current on vaccinations, neutered, micro chipped, and litter box trained.

Heath is very tolerant and mellow and would be a great choice for a family with children. And he’s very non-aggressive toward other cats, so would probably be good with other pets. He is helping us continue our promotion of Woods’ 55th Anniversary and National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month and (along with all of the cats and kits out at Woods) is available for a reduced adoption fee of only $55!

KITTUNZ 2010
Meet the first round of 2010 Woods Kits. These two extremely playful and friendly orange/white tabby kits are neutered, within their vaccination schedule, micro chipped, and working on their potty training. Kittens are arriving weekly at Woods and in response; we are featuring our felines (adults and kits) for a reduced adoption fee of $55 for the entire month of June. June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month and it is our goal to break the record of 61 feline adoptions set back in September. If you are looking to welcome a new furry friend into your family, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society to spend some time with the adorable babies who are desperately seeking a place to call home. While you are out, we implore you to stop visit with our adult cats as they tend to be overlooked during kitten season. You can also help the cats at Woods by spreading the word to your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers about our June Promotion.

Media Pawtner Update: Thank you for helping to maintain a clear and consistent voice for the animals of Woods in our community. Last week’s featured dog—Casey—was adopted on Saturday thanks to you! And the good news doesn’t top here—LOVE HOG HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!!! after calling Woods his home for 2 years, the our resident “big boy” went home. Wait for it…. GILDA our old lady cat who didn’t have very many teeth left has also gone home this week! And I am not finished yet—Onyx (talkative black “dogcat”) is currently living in a new home as well!! I’d have to say this has been a very good week for the cats of Woods. Previously featured animals still waiting for their perfect match are Mr. Green, Ike, Dewey and Miguel.

Muffin

Muffin is a handsome orange tabby with beautiful bright eyes. He tends to be a little shy so my not notice him right away but once he discovers you are interested in petting him he’ll become your best friend and follow you everywhere. He especially loves to have his ears rubbed and he expresses his contentment by purring like a will oiled machine. Muffin is a sweetheart and gets along well with other cats but because of his shyness would probably do better in a home without small children. Our Mr. Mellow is a gem and will be a wonderful addition to your home.

Muffin has been a guest of Woods since March and joined our adoption program as a transfer from Animal Services. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and litter box trained. Muffin is helping us conclude April’s promotion and is available for a reduced adoption fee of $50.

Minkie

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Minkie, a 6.5-year-old tabby who has been a guest of Woods Humane Society since August of 2008. Minkie is a pretty gray tabby with a cute pink nose and a feminine little face. She is a quiet cat, but very affectionate – starts purring immediately as soon as you pet her. Minkie is sweet and gentle—a mellow girl who will reward your attention by licking and grooming you. Minkie doesn’t mind being picked up and will make a wonderful, cuddly little lap cat. Calm and tolerant, Minkie gets along fine with the other cats in our cattery, and with her sweet nature should do very well with children. Though she is quiet, she has a playful side to her, too, which should blossom in a secure, loving environment. An all around great little girl and Minkie is helping us continue our April Showers bring Furry Flowers promotion—all adult felines are available for a reduced adoption fee of $50 until the end of April!

Ike

This week’s featured Pet Pal is Ike, a 3-year-old handsome black and white tuxedo cat with an adorable black nose and half of a black mustache. Ike is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro chipped, and litter box trained. He joined Woods’ adoption program as a transfer from the SLO County Animal Services back in February and is patiently waiting for a new loving family to adopt. Ike is a big boy—fluffy with a fat tail, but has the cutest little meow that belies his size. Moreover, he’ll be sure to let you hear it if you seek him out in the cubby or shelf he tends to favor. Though he quietly keeps to himself, Ike is extremely loving and affectionate and will welcome your attention immediately. Ike starts purring as soon as you pet him and continues long after you stop—though that’s hard to do because he’s so adorable. He’ll implore you to keep rubbing by rolling over on his back and looking up at you with his love filled light gray eyes. Good natured and gentle, Ike will do well in a household and should be a good fit for a family with children. Ike is helping us launch our feline special for this month and all adult felines are available for a reduced adoption fee of only $50 all of April.

King

This week’s featured Pet Pal is “King”, a 1.5-year-old Chihuahua Mix who has called Woods Humane Society his home since the beginning of March. King wears a short black and tan coat, is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and house trained. He walks great on a leash and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Being only 8 lbs—King is a small dog with an enormous heart. He is playful and is usually found entertaining himself with a squeaky toy when let out in a play yard. Affectionate and tolerant—King will make a great addition to just about any family. King is a pint sized companion who would love to tuck into your arm and travel everywhere with. For some reason, King is being overlooked at Woods and is desperately seeking a loving new home to call his own. If you are looking for a small dog who has a lot of love to give (and who is named after a local radio host), please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and spend some time with our tiny King.

“Onyx”

This week’s featured friend is “Onyx”, a gorgeous 4-year-old black coated Domestic Short Hair cat that has been a guest of Woods Humane Society since April of 2008. Onyx originally joined our adoption program as a transfer from the SLO County Animal Services. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, micro chipped, and litter box trained. She is a very pretty shorthaired black cat with a little bit of white on her chest and tummy. She has a feminine triangular shaped head and face, soft, sleek fur and beautiful golden colored almond shaped eyes. Onyx is extremely affectionate and loving, but has an independent nature. She is very gentle and quick to purr, and lets you know vocally when it is time to give her attention (she is very talkative). Onyx gets along great with other cats and loves the company of dogs! Go figure. She is playful and inquisitive and would be a wonderful addition for an active household with children. She is a true gem of the cattery and will definitely make a wonderful addition to any family. If you or anyone you know is looking for a new furry friend, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society to spend some time getting to know this long overlooked love bug named “Onyx.”

Mr. Green

This week’s Featured Pet is Mr Green, a 1-year-old flat-coated retriever who transferred in to our adoption program in January. Mr. Green is neutered, current on vaccinations, and micro chipped. Most likely house broken, he is good on a leash and great with kids. Characteristic of his breed—Mr. Green has a high level of energy and is looking for an active home with room to run. He will make an amazing jogging or hiking partner. Mr. Green is not dealing with the inherent stress of kennel life very well and is desperately seeking a new and loving home to call his own. If you are an active person looking for a dog that can keep up with you, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know Mr. Green. Oh and he said that it is perfectly ok to change his name.

Trooper

Our Pet of the Week is Trooper, a 5-year-old tan and white Corgi-Basset Hound Mix (Corset) who is a guest of Woods since December. Trooper is a sweet dog that is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped, and leash trained. He is a little shy, but quickly warms up to anyone willing to give him a pat on the head. He rides very well in the car, gets along great with other dogs, and is perfect for someone looking for a quite, mellow dog that is easy to manage. Very responsive to treats and affection, Trooper would be great for a smaller home with older/considerate children. Recently, Trooper accompanied a pack of dogs and Woods Volunteers out for a night with the Central Coast Roller Derby Girls. He performed wonderfully at the event and has since become one of the shelter’s handpicked Pet Visitation K9 Ambassadors. A bit of a conversation starter, at first glance most people think that Trooper is cross-eyed. In reality, he just has a unique coloring to his eyes. Trooper wants nothing more than to find a sweetheart this Valentine’s Day so if you are looking for a companion that enjoys long walks on the beach, watching the sunset, and curling up to snuggle and watch a movie, consider stopping by Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know this great little dog.

Miguel

This weeks features Pet of the Week is Miguel, a 3-year-old medium haired black cat with a strong bear like face and big round golden eyes. He is extremely loving and affectionate and wont hesitate to seek you out and jump in your lap for a little love session. Miguel is really like a big baby—very cuddly and once in your lap will maneuver himself to get as close to you as possible. And when he looks up at you with those big eyes that appear to be pleading for love, he’s impossible to resist!

DEWEY

Meet “Dewey”, this week’s featured Pet Pal. Dewey is a 1.5 year old Orange coated domestic long hair that has been a guest of Woods Humane Society since January of 2009. Dewey is an extremely handsome guy with a regal face and golden eyes. He is very loving when he wants to be and has a decidedly independent nature. Dewey is very intelligent, active, playful, and extremely curious about everything around him. Dewey would do well in a one cat household; he does ok with other cats but prefers to be the center of attention. However, Dewey would do very well with a “cat-loving” dog and would prefer to live as an indoor/outdoor furry member of your family. He is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, micro-chipped, and litter box trained. He likes to be held and snuggled and is also very tolerant. If you or someone you know is looking for a furry new friend, please consider stopping by the cattery at Woods Humane Society and spend some time getting to know our guy Dewey.

She is playful and inquisitive and would be a wonderful addition for an active household with children. She is a true gem of the cattery and will definitely make a wonderful addition to any family. “Love Hog”

This week’s featured Pet Pal is “Love Hog”, a 4 year old black & white coated domestic short hair cat who has called Woods Humane Society his home since April of 2008. Love Hog is micro chipped, neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and litter box trained. He is a handsomely LARGE cat who easily weighs in over 20 pounds. He is shy when he first meets you, but is very affectionate and loves to be petted and scratched under his chin. Love Hog is aptly named (he could use some exercise), but loves having his rather large belly rubbed. Because of his gentle, quiet nature, Love Hog should do fine in a household with children. However, he doesn’t seem to like dogs very much but gets along great with other cats. Love Hog is our resident lounge lizard! He can often be found curled up napping a basket on our outdoor “Catio” and would do best as an indoor/outdoor feline addition to your family. If you or anyone that you know is “feline” like they could use the power of Love in their life, please consider stopping by Woods Humane Society to spend some time getting to know this striking handsome fellow named Love Hog.
